MEXICO: López Obrador gains as rivals hit snags

PRI candidate Roberto Madrazo has suffered a new setback with the defection of 18 congressmen in protest against the 'manipulation' of the party and the legislative bloc for the sake of his candidacy. He was also slapped down, together with PAN candidate Felipe Calderón, for having suggested that front-runner Andrés Manuel López Obrador, of the leftist Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD), was being funded by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez .
